This will grant you a repeated choice between 10 minutes, 1 hour and 4 hours of postponed reboot. (Shouldn’t this be default behavior?)

Now, as opposed to the insanity of fixing a “corrupted user profile”, the solution that works like a charm in my case is a simple restart of Windows Explorer.

Pull up the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). On the “Processes” tab, find the process named explorer.exe. Select it, then click End Process. The taskbar should now disappear. Switch to the “Applications” tab, click New Task and enter explorer in the small window that should pop up. Confirm with OK.

Новое слово изобрелось: плюсодина. Вот прям так, как напрашивается, — с ударением на второй слог. Если не обращать внимания на изначальные корни этого сложного слова несобственного сложения, то в плане ритмики русского языка само выпадает:

плю-СО-ди-на

А этимология, собственно, в следующем… Это когда на какое-нибудь культурно-массовое мероприятие не один, а с мадам намылился, причем тебя ждут, а ее нет. Поэтому звонишь ответственному лицу и говоришь, мол, я с плюсодиной.

Тот, соответственно: “Че-го-о-о?!”

“Плюс один у меня,” — поясняешь, — “из прекрасных”.

Неуверенная пауза, после которой трубка в течение некоторого времени издает непонятные хрюкающие звуки — видимо, означающие, что сообщение принято, — и отключается. В следующую секунду ловишь на себе взгляд, которым можно жечь города и веси: “Как ты меня только что назвал?!”

“М-м… Нормально назвал… Было б наоборот, был бы я твоим плюсодином. Обувайся давай уже, а то опоздаем”.

P.S. Но вообще-то “плюсодин” в мужском роде и с “неправильным” ударением (на третий слог) — давно не новость. Интернет кишит фразочкой “Плюсодин моего плюсодина — мой плюсодин”. А еще говорят, что северный цветок из семейства орхидей calypso bulbosa по-русски называется “плюсодина малиновая” (ударение не локализовано), но документального подтверждения сего факта я пока не нашел.

The other day, I was going through my “Been There / Done That” archives — actually reading stuff this time — now, see what I’ve found in our camp manual (no image processing here, trust me, just scanned as it is):

You know what the funniest part of this is? Some of them participants took some of the highlighted text literally! Without ever having read it!

··  USB tethering ceased to start automatically when the device got connected to a computer’s USB port.
··  When making or accepting calls, the speaker started to turn on at the very beginning of the conversation.
··  And, most annoyingly, the Navigation app (Android’s native one) started to get launched all the time, anywhere from every couple of hours to every couple of seconds. Wow.

According to a dozen of forums I skimmed through, the problem is caused by so-called car dock mode: apparently, every now and then the dumbphone gets a feeling that it’s docked in a car, and enables/disables a corresponding bunch of “features” designed to make drivers’ lives easier. There is no solid opinion on the reason of such behavior, although most threads suggest USB port defect caused by dirt or mechanical issue.

Funny thing, by the way: a lot of forum threads describing this problem end up in a hanging repetition of “same here, anyone got a solution yet?” kind of comments. (That’s why I’m posting this article. Should have put a large “SOLVED” in the heading.)

So… Cleaning the USB port with needles, brushes, air “spray”, prayers or magnetic jive dancing — all to no avail in my case. What helped was unexpectedly different: a free app called DockNothing did exactly what its name said: it disabled all possible docking modes (car, home, are there more?) — and hallelujah!

My smartagainphone is working just fine. (Most likely, still attempting to dock to thin air hundred times a day. But as long as I don’t notice that… hmm… so what?)

UPDATE: A couple of weeks later, the whole circus started all over again… I tried several more “no-dock-apps”, multiple reboots et cetera et cetera — no result. The symptoms described above showed up according to no system at all: sometimes it was quiet for hours, and sometimes the navigation would start right in the middle of a call. From time to time I had to charge the stubborn device, of course, — that’s when I noticed an interesting pattern: after a recharge in the car (via the adapter cable which is always there) the phone behaved normally until the next recharge with its native USB cable. Ah-ha-a-a! So I threw that one away, found an old one from my recently deceased Nokia — and there we go, who would have thought! No troubles at all ever since!

Apparently, the problem is in the hardware, after all. A defective USB cable — or port, depending on how (un)lucky you are, — is bridging some pins it’s not supposed to, and the whole system goes crazy.

Принцип прост (хватаешь взятки до тех пор, пока не наберешь победное количество очков), но правила довольно закрученные — и это хорошо, иначе играть было бы скучно.

Само собой, существует несколько видов и подвидов этой игры (подробнее — чуть позже); в данной статье описан вариант так называемого «шиблера» (швейц. Schiebler — «отлынщик») для двух пар игроков.

Карты

В ясс играют «обычными» французскими или «необычными» немецкими или швейцарскими картами — 36 штук в колоде, четыре масти по девять карт. «Дурня» знаете? Ну, вот. Только что картинки разные.

Игроки

Как уже сказано, в «шиблере» игроки разбиты на (или сбиты в) две пары (команды). «Соратники» садятся друг напротив друга, «враги», получается, — слева и справа; таким образом «перемешивается» круг раздачи и ходов: свой, чужой, свой, чужой. Направление игры — против часовой стрелки.

Терминология

Если вы не знаете, что такое игрок, карта, колода, сдвиг, масть, козырь, взятка (прикуп), мухлеж, часовая стрелка и прочая и прочая — попробуйте поиграть в другую игру. Или просто погулять, подышать свежим воздухом. Потому что дальше будет вообще темный лес. Но для тех, кто более-менее в курсе — на всякий случай парочка пояснений (дабы избежать недоразумений):

··  круг — каждый игрок сыграл по одной карте;
··  раунд — игра от раздачи до раздачи (девять кругов);
··  марьяж — козырный король и дама (на одних руках, разумеется);
··  вайс — последовательность карт, заявленная одним из игроков (с целью получения вознаграждения в виде дополнительных очков, см. далее).

As you can see, the line shown in the video is yellow(ish) — but that’s just for demonstration reasons. It looks (hides) way better if it’s transparent. (Surprise, surprise…) And don’t forget about the weight of whatever you’re using it for: a heavy-duty (0.5 mm) fishing line can hold up to 17 kilograms; a bead thread just as thick might handle up to ten. In any case, make sure to read the description on the reel to prevent your cat from being killed by a picture frame or an ornamental welded piece of art.
